I read in a German audio magazine "Es folgen die Nachrichten"(a song had just been played prior to this)
I think my confusion arises from the word order.
In this case,I'm assuming "Es" refers to the preceding song(das Lied?) and "folgen" refers to die Nachrichten.
In other words,"The news follows it(the music)?

I agree that this is a little confusing.
"Es" does not mean the song but is more a general term. "Jetzt folgen die Nachrichten" is what it means.
